As introduced: - Requires providers of widely used generative artificial intelligence tools to embed a machine-readable provenance label in any generated or altered image, video, or audio content, and to provide a free tool for reading such labels. - Requires large online platforms to make provenance label information visible to users and prohibits the removal of such labels from content. - Requires manufacturers of new capture devices, such as phones and cameras, to include by default a feature that embeds provenance data into captured content, with an option for users to opt out. - Authorizes the Attorney General to enforce these provisions and seek civil penalties for violations.
