As amended on 4/16/2026: - Creates the Children's Social Media Safety Act, to require a covered device manufacturer to require an account holder to indicate the user's age upon activation. - Requires the device to provide a signal to developers regarding the user's age bracket. Requires developers to request an age signal to apply age-related safety defaults. - Requires a social media platform to use default settings for known minors that restrict viewing precise geolocation or receiving or sending gifted currency to a minor. - Prohibits a platform from providing an addictive feed or sending overnight notifications to a known minor without parental consent. - Makes a violation of the act an unlawful practice under the Consumer Fraud and Deceptive Business Practices Act. - The original version of the bill required operating systems to establish age verification, but those provisions were deleted on 4/16/2026.
