As introduced: - Creates a fourth-degree crime for generating deceptive audio or visual deepfakes for an unlawful purpose sich as harassment or cyber-harassment, theft or extortion, false reports, or invasion of privacy. Creates a third-degree crime for knowingly disclosing such media without a disclaimer. - Establishes a private right of action for an individual depicted in a deepfake to bring a civil suit for damages, including liquidated damages of at least $1,000 per violation. - Exempts news media from liability unless they knowingly publish an illegally created deepfake and fail to clearly identify it as deceptive.
