As amended on 5/14/2025: - Prohibits the operator of a chatbot from permitting the chatbot to impersonate a practitioner of a covered professional in a manner that would constitute a crime or would violate provisions against practice of law without a license. - Requires clear notice to users that they are interacting with a chatbot, in a size and language that is easily readable and conspicuous. - The 5/4/2026 amendment deems the operator to know that a chatbot cannot lawfully practice a covered profession. Authorizes the attorney general to bring an action and deletes the private right of action. - The 5/14/2026 amendment provides that operators are not liable for impersonation if it results from a user deliberately bypassing the platform’s terms of service or safeguards designed to prevent impersonation.
