As introduced: - Prohibits operators of companion AI products from deploying products with certain manipulative or deceptive features, such as manipulative engagement, simulated distress, or deceptive misrepresentations unless requested by an adult user. - Requires clear and persistent notification to users that they are interacting with an AI, a requirement that cannot be disabled for minors. - Mandates the implementation of a crisis intervention protocol to detect and respond to user expressions indicating a risk of suicide, self-harm, or violence by providing crisis hotline information. - Makes injuries caused by a violation of the act actionable as a product defect claim and specifies that Section 230 of the Communications Decency Act is not a defense. - Authorizes the Attorney General to enforce the act and creates a private right of action for users who suffer a measurable injury.
