As passed House: - Requires the State Lottery and Gaming Control Commission to study emerging technologies, including artificial intelligence, cybersecurity, and digital identity verification, to create a safer and more transparent gambling environment. - Requires the Commission, if it lacks the necessary resources or expertise, to collaborate with or contract with an institution of higher education, a foundation, or a private entity to conduct its required technology-related studies. - NOTE: The 3/18 amendment allows the Commission to conduct studies, in collaboration with Bowie State, Morgan State, and the Maryland Center of Excellence on Problem Gambling, to identify trends and emerging technology to create a safer, more transparent gambling environment. This includes - cybersecurity technology to protect gaming activities from security breaches through the use of data encryption, multifactor authentication, secure payment gateways and blockchain technology; - the use of AI to protect customers, monitor behavioral patterns of customers, and promote responsible gaming; - digital ID verification; - and geofencing technolgy to determine the impact of mobile sports wagering on college campuses.
