As introduced: - Requires operators of companion chatbots to establish protocols to prevent presenting content concerning self-harm or suicide and to refer users who express such thoughts to crisis services. - Requires operators to establish protocols to prevent a companion chatbot from presenting sexually explicit content to a minor user. - Requires operators to display a warning to users that the chatbot is artificially generated and to display a usage-break warning to minor users after three hours of consecutive use. - Requires operators to report annually to the Office of Suicide Prevention on their safety protocols and user notifications, and requires the Office to publish this data. - Makes a violation of these provisions an unfair, abusive, or deceptive trade practice subject to the enforcement and penalty provisions of the Maryland Consumer Protection Act.
