As amended on 3/19/2026: - Requires the State Department of Education to develop and publish guidance on the use of artificial intelligence in schools and requires each local school system to adopt a corresponding AI policy and promote AI literacy. - Requires the State Department of Education to ensure artificial intelligence literacy is a component of workforce preparation standards and to coordinate statewide professional development training for educators. - Establishes the Maryland AI Education Collaborative on Artificial Intelligence in K-12 Education to study the use of AI in schools and make recommendations on state guidance, policies, and professional development. - Requires each local school system to designate an artificial intelligence coordinator and requires a state university to assist in certifying that AI tools are consistent with state guidelines.
